In his inaugural lecture, Dr. Stefan Rabitsch (Dept. of English and American Studies) pursues the question of 'why Star Trek still matters?', addressing Star Trek†™s broach reach, its broad resonance, and its broad recognition, i.e. its interdisciplinary relevance. Based on an understanding that science fiction can be understood as interdisciplinary practice, the lecture looks at what Star Trek stories have been communicating for the past 50 years and elucidates what students from different fields can do with Star Trek.
