In den BBC-Presseinfos findet sich außerdem noch Folgendes:

Forty years since its publication, one of the greatest anti-war novels of all time will receive its first ever dramatisation for radio. The story of prisoner of war and optometrist Billy Pilgrim and his haphazard odyssey through time reflects the journey of our own fractured lives. Slaughterhouse-Five is adapted by Dave Sheasby.

Vonnegut's iconic 20th-century American text manages to explore the science-fiction form alongside a more profound investigation into themes concerning the nature of war and free will. Billy Pilgrim is a man who "has come unstuck in time and is in a constant state of stage fright, never knowing what part of his life he is going to have to act in next".

Throughout the novel Billy randomly and repeatedly revisits different parts of his life, including his death. He is captured by aliens from the planet Tralfamadore where he is exhibited in a zoo with Montana Wildhack, a pornographic movie star.

We hear him numbly wading through deep snow in Germany after the Battle of the Bulge; we see his comfortable suburban existence as an optometrist in Ilium, married to the boss's daughter; and we see him as a POW transported and eventually taken to Dresden, where he witnesses the infamous firestorm that killed 130,000 citizens.

By the time of his murder Billy has adopted Tralfamadorian fatalism, which has given him great personal peace. Tralfamadorians can see in four dimensions, they have seen every instance of their lives already; they cannot choose to change anything about their fate, but can choose to focus on any moment in their lives that they wish.

Andrew Scott stars as Billy Pilgrim and John Guerassio as the narrator, alongside a host of North American and home-grown acting talent.

The director, David Hunter, has worked with Dave Sheasby on many projects including last year's acclaimed dramatisation of another classic war novel, All Quiet On The Western Front, also for Drama On 3.

The music used in Slaughterhouse-Five is by the Sheffield band 65 Days Of Static - a post-rock, math-rock outfit who quote Vonnegut on their web page and who are distinctive in their own creative and cavalier attitude towards time and time signatures.

Und von der Band, die die Musik zum Hörspiel beisteuert, ist zu lesen:

65daysofstatic have provided the music for the upcoming BBC Radio 3 adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut†™s †˜Slaughterhouse 5†™. Some of the music is from our records and stuff, and some of the more exciting bits like the time travel and the spaceship and the firebombing of Dresden during the war have some new music that we wrote especially for it. And regardless of that, it†™s well worth listening to, because it†™s great. As is the book.

Danke für den Hinweis! Ich versuche seit Jahren, das Buch zu lesen, aber entweder vergesse ich es oder ich habe keine Lesezeit. Jetzt kann ich "nebenher" noch einen Versuch starten. ;-)
